Tungsten(VI) oxide - Introduction
Sensitive to humidity. When heated, the color changes from light to dark to dark orange, and returns to the original color after cold. Soluble in alkali hydroxide solution, slightly soluble in acid, insoluble in water. The minimum lethal dose (rat, oral) is 840mg/kg. It's irritating. It sublimates significantly at 850 ℃ and turns green when melted. It is stable in air, insoluble in water and inorganic acids except hydrofluoric acid, and can slowly dissolve in ammonia and concentrated hot sodium hydroxide solution.

Preparation Method:
There are usually several ways to prepare Tungsten(VI) oxide, the most common are:
1. Direct oxidation method: metal Tungsten is exposed to oxygen at high temperature to make it undergo oxidation reaction to generate Tungsten(VI) oxide.
2. oxide decomposition method: tungstic acid or tungstate is decomposed in a high temperature and reducing atmosphere to obtain Tungsten(VI) oxide.
Safety Information:
Tungsten(VI) oxide is relatively safe under general conditions of use, but the following points need to be paid attention to during processing and preparation:
1. Inhalation or exposure to high concentrations of Tungsten(VI) oxide dust may cause irritation to the respiratory tract, eyes and skin, and appropriate protective measures should be taken.
2. Avoid contact with strong oxidants and strong bases to avoid violent reactions.
3. When dealing with Tungsten(VI) oxide, care should be taken to avoid flying dust to prevent inhalation or explosion.
Before using Tungsten(VI) oxide, it is recommended to take corresponding safety measures according to the specific situation and follow appropriate operating procedures.
